Smart improvments are functional ones (windows and doors) that add to the home's practicality or low-cost cosmetic improvments that enhance your home's visual appeal.

It's good practice to examine the materials and fixtures before they are installed. Don't hestitate about asking questions or complaining if you find work deficient.

**Keep that solid paper trail---contract, proof of payment, emails, and pictures of shoddy work. If you need to complain or file a lawsuit you'll have a better chance.
